Nyctinasty

I didn’t even know there was a word for it but nyctinasty is what it’s called when flowers open during the day and close themselves at night. The way it works is by the bottom petals growing at a different rate to the top ones, causing to flower to either open or close.
Whatever it’s called it’s pretty cool and I managed to capture a time-lapse of the process of our water lily opening. This took exactly an hour which I sped up into a 10 second video.
