How to Stop Your Phone Disturbing Your Sleep
Most people I know sleep with their phones within reach. It’s often sat on a bedside table which is handy if you use it as an alarm. What’s not so great is when one of your drunken friends sends you a message at 2am and wakes you up! Add that and a lot of notifications that people have switched on, and you simply won’t ever sleep well thanks to all the interruptions. You could of course switch your phone off, or use airplane mode. The issue then is that people worry about missing that occasional emergency call.
A great compromise that a lot of people don’t know about is the “do not disturb” mode on iPhone (Android also has a similar function). Of course the big thing is remembering to switch it on, but even that has been addressed. You can schedule a daily time to automatically go into do not disturb mode. I have mine set between 10pm and 7am. Between those hours I won’t get any notifications, messages, or phone calls.
But what about those emergency calls I hear you say! This is where it gets even smarter. Despite being in do not disturb mode you can still allow calls from specific groups of contacts. Another option is to allow your phone to ring when the same persons calls you a second time within 3 minutes.
So there you have it. A great in built solution for getting an uninterrupted nights sleep, but with the reassurance that in case of an emergency, you’re still available.
