Accidents Happen

On Saturday afternoon James was playing at throwing sticks with a friend on the beach. Unfortunately, one slipped as it was thrown and hit him in the head quite badly. We rushed him to hospital and 6 stitches later he was fine and it’s now healing well.

It was the worst moment I’ve ever had as a parent but it also got me thinking. Throughout your life you’ll have people constantly warning you about the dangers of doing x, y, and z and telling you not to do things. If you listened to everyone then you’d never actually do anything. You’d sit at home all day (even though home is the most common place for an accident!) and just exist rather than actually living your life.

I’m not suggesting to be reckless and we all have a different risk/reward ratio. But if an accident like this can happen in such a safe environment, it can happen anywhere. We’re only here for a short time so I think we should make the most of it. Go out and have amazing experiences. Don’t just exist, but live.
